This was the recipe that started Kath and Liz’s unbaked food journey together.

Go-to Date and Fig Balls

: Makes 20 Balls

Add a splash of any liquid if mixture isn’t sticking together. Substitute figs for raisins, if preferred.


  • 1 ½ cups almond meal
  • 16 dried dates
  • ½ cup figs, firmly packed
  • ¾ cup desiccated coconut
  • 2 tbs cacao powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • additional coconut, for rolling
  • Optional:
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 4 tsp fresh orange juice
  • Step 1 Place dates and figs into food processor with almond meal, coconut and cacao powder. Process on high until mix comes together. Scrape down, add vanilla, pulse until combined. Add orange zest and juice with vanilla, if using. With a tablespoon, measure and roll into balls. Roll in additional desiccated coconut until covered.
